Common Summer Pet Emergencies

1. Heatstroke - This can happen VERY quickly and even when the temperature isn't all that high. Cool your pet down quickly and call your veterinarian immediately. Some pets may require intensive therapy to save their life, such as IV fluids and medications for shock.

2. Bee sting - These are usually mild but can become severe depending on the number of stings and the pet. Call your veterinarian for instructions on treatment and care.

3. Snake bite - If you suspect that this has happened to your pet- contact your veterinarian immediately. Snake bites require aggressive therapy in most cases to save your pet's life. Many require IV medications and fluids and some require anti-venom. We keep this product in stock and use it when required in order to save your pets life. There is now a vaccination to protect your pet against rattlesnake and copperhead venom. We carry and recommend this vaccine to those pets at risk for coming into contact with these species of snakes.
